Doctor Who

You may believe that Doctor Who comes from the planet Gallifrey, but, in fact, his real home is Llandaff - BBC Wales, Llandaff.

When the ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, came to our screens in 2005, the series was produced in-house from BBC Broadcasting House on Llantrisant Road.  Its popularity continued as he re-generated into the tenth Doctor, David Tennant.

Eagle-eyed viewers will spot Llandaff in episodes of Doctor Who and it’s spin-off series’ Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.

In October 2009, The Green was transformed into the village of Leadworth, complete with duck pond and village pub, for the first episode with the eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith.  This episode was transmitted on 3rd April 2010.  And if you’re wondering about ‘Upper Leadworth’ in episode 7, that was filmed in the Monmouthshire village of Skenfrith.

With the completion of the new Drama Village planned for Cardiff Bay, we will also be welcoming Casualty and Being Human to the city.
