Knightshayes Court

In August 2009, the Llandaff Society organised a trip to Knightshayes Court in Tiverton. The House, designed by William Burges was of special interest to the Friends of Insole Court as it contains work by Fred Weekes, who designed the Court’s magnificent Four Seasons’ Frieze.    A short stop was taken en route at Clevedon, to take a stroll on the Pier and sample the local coffee and ice cream.

Roald Dahl plaque unveiling

September 2009 saw the unveiling of the Roald Dahl Blue Plaque on the Great Wall Chinese Takeaway, on the High Street.  We were delighted to welcome Roald’s widow, Liccy, and his son, Theo, to Llandaff.  After the plaque was unveiled, children from The Cathedral School performed a re-enactment of The Great Mouse Plot, Roald Dahl’s famous story about the hideous Mrs Pratchett and her notorious Sweetshop.  Click here for more photos.

Derek Brockway and Sian Lloyd switched on the Christmas Lights for 2009.  Music was provided by choral group ‘Oriana’.  The funds for the new lights were made possible by the hard work of Tracy Enwright of Llandaff Surgery and local traders.

A successful lunch was held at the Parish Hall on Thursday, 17th February, in aid of the NSPCC.  Delicious soup was supplied by Jaspers, and entertainment by a visiting speaker!  Many thanks to all involved.

The second garden clear-up session took place on 6th March.  28 volunteers helped to remove undergrowth, prepare flowerbeds and discover the hidden Victorian garden.  Visit the Insole Court site for more details.

The Llandaff Society at Arundells

The Llandaff Society visited Arundells, the home of Sir Edward Heath in June 2010.  This beautiful house in Salisbury is filled with his amazing collections, and is, sadly, due to close in October.
